Founder of Rolfing: Dr. Ida P. Rolf
The biochemist and founder Dr. Ida Rolf initially focused intensively on osteopathy and yoga. Based on the knowledge she gained, she later developed her own form of treatment, which she called “Structural Integration”. Ida Rolf was way ahead of her time when she first recognized the vital role that fascia plays in our body structure as early as the 1950s and tailored her form of treatment accordingly. Rolf was convinced that targeted manipulation of the fascial network would optimize posture and eliminate movement restrictions.
Today, everyone is talking about fascia –thanks to another Rolfer® and leading fascia researcher Robert Schleipp. Over the past two decades, he and his team have made ground-breaking discoveries have confirmed Ida Rolf's assumptions almost without exception. Today, nobody doubts the importance of this tissue.
